The Unified Socialist Party calls on the Syrian president to avoid the practices of the Assad regime.

The Political Bureau of the Unified Socialist Party called on Syrian Interim President Ahmed al-Sharaa not to follow the path of ousted President Bashar al-Assad, during the events that rocked the country's western region last week.

The Unified Socialist Party issued a statement condemning the "brutal massacres Syria just suffered" and called for them to stop at once, the immediate publication of the investigation committee findings, and the prosecution of all perpetrators in spite of duties and affiliations.

The Moroccan left party also opposed all forms of armed intervention, both from within and outside, and called for the opening up of public space for non-violent struggle of all kinds.

The statement viewed what was happening in Syria as "a violation of human rights, a settling of ideological, sectarian, and political scores, and the mutilation of corpses in a scene far removed from humanity," viewing the scene as similar to "ISIS practices."

Syria witnessed controversy surrounding violence between regime loyalist militias and government troops in the western part of the country last week. Human rights groups referred to the violence as "massacres that have become the massacre of innocent civilians."

Moroccan left-wing civil society organizations and leaders have closely followed developments in Syria since the overthrow of Bashar al-Assad's regime, having earlier expressed suspicion of the motives of interim President Ahmed al-Sharaa.

Jamal al-Asri, Secretary-General of the Unified Socialist Party, called on Syrian Interim President Ahmed al-Sharaa to "desist from following the course of Bashar al-Assad's regime and other Arab regimes that have systematically imposed strangleholds on power and violated humanity and international conventions."

Al-Asri continued to state in a statement to Hespress that his party has, since the beginning of the Assad regime, "been clear about the need to respect democracy, international law, and the protection of humanity."

He continued: "This statement we issued was somewhat delayed due to their observation of the complex situation in Syria, especially President al-Sharaa's explanations, which acknowledged the existence of abuses that warranted an investigation."

The left-wing leader condemned these massacres, adding, "Anyone who tries to justify these conditions is just comparing Sharaa to Assad."

The speech called for "making Syria for all Syrians, especially through multi-party politics." The Unified Socialist Party opposed Sharaa's action of disbanding the country's nationalist parties as part of political reform.

On this, Al-Asri emphasized that "Shara must not sink into the conduct of Arab regimes that have followed a one-party rule and had dealings with democracy."

The Moroccan party hopes the new Syria will keep on operating under the command of Sharaa in order to remain strong and active in the face of the moves of the "Zionist entity."
